Ottawa School Boards
Ottawa has four school boards to choose from, plus many Private schools.
Lots of choice!
Ottawa Carleton District School Board (OCDSB)
- This is the largest school board in Ottawa and is the English - Public board. OCDSB which offers multiple programs for French Immersion (starting in Grade 1 or 4), English with Core French, or an Alternative Program of education. Details HERE.
- Attendence at schools is mainly based on where you live, as each school has specified boundaries. Use the School Locator tool, add your address the desired program and year of instruction to see what schools your child(ren) will attend.
- Alternatively, if you already know which school you want to have your child attend, then you can look at the School Boundary Maps (Elementary / Secondary) and then search for a home within those boundaries. *** Note that these can change as demographics change and new schools open.
Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB)
- English Catholic board, though you do not need to be Catholic to attend.
*** NOTE *** This school board does not cover areas East of Ottawa (Russell / Embrun / Limoges / Casselman) These schools fall under Eastern Ontario boards (which I will provide links about below).
- OCSB follows a different structure for their French Immersion, with their FI program commencing in Grade 4. Details on their approach HERE.
- To determine the school for a specific address, use their School Locator Page. Alternatively, look at the Boundary Maps so you know where to look for a house. The OCSB website provides extensive information about cross-boundary attendence as well.
Conseil des ecoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE)
- This is the French Catholic board. You do not have to be Catholic to attend these schools.
*** NOTE *** This school board does not cover areas East of Ottawa (Russell / Embrun / Limoges / Casselman) These schools fall under Eastern Ontario boards (which I will provide links about below). This board does cover the areas to the West and South of Ottawa.
- CECCE has an excellent online App that allows you to search by address or look at the maps for each school all through the same site. Check it out HERE!
Conseil des ecoles publique de l'Est de l'Ontario (CEPEO)
- French Public board. You generally do need to have French Language Rights to attend these schools, however, discretion rests with the individual school as to whether they will allow children attend their school on a case by case basis.
- This board covers the schools not only within Ottawa but all of the surrounding areas in Eastern Ontario.
- CEPEO has an excellent App where you can search for the school via address or through the map. Check it out HERE!
